The TD257 gets a new outfit: MADDOG Airforce Stock

After the long debate with myself, I finally dove into trying to get a MadDog stock for my TD257.  Why you ask?  We will touch on that in a minute.  After contacting Doug Russell who is an absolute pleasure to deal with, he told me that he had been wanting to talk to me anyways and low and behold, I called....  After we got all caught up with one another, we touched on what his stocks can provide and what I needed the stock to do.  Doug told me that he had been wanting to know the dimension of my bigger 53 ci Catalina bottle and that this would be the first step in getting a stock made for my TD257.  You see, the bottle I have is bigger in diameter than the OEM Bottle.  My bottle also has an extension added to it to keep the LOP consistent with the OEM bottle and its for the quick connect and gauge.  So all of this needed to be taken into consideration to build me a MD Stock.  I told Doug that I could get him all the dimensions he needed and that within a couple to a few days, I would have him the numbers and pictures.  Doug would make me a stock simply from the dimension and pictures that I provided to him.  I was anxious to see just how good this guy was......lol!

After also taking pictures and measurements, I sent all the pictures and measurements to Doug.  Doug then 2 about 2-3 weeks to carve up the stock and sent me some pics.  During that conversation, he also asked me what all accessories that I wanted mounted/added to the stock and I was like a kid in a candy store.  But I also am a simple kinda guy when it comes to guns and I don't care for the HEAVILY TACTICAL look.  I asked for a weaver rail along with a swivel stud attached so I could mount a bi-pod.  He also asked me if I wanted a fully adjustable mono pod installed in the pistol grip of the stock.  Of course...........I DID!  He also installed a rear swivel stud to the rear of the stock so I could later attach a sling if I deemed it necessary.  Another nice feature he adds to this stocks is a recess grooved into the sides of the stock so when you shoot offhand, your fingers have extra grip in the recess.  His butt pads come in just about any length that you can request up to a couple of inches thick.  This adds in LOP for us longer armed guys.  These stocks are made of POPLAR and are strong and light to boot.

Here are some pictures of the stock he came up with via my dimensions.  A prototype if you will:

Doug Russell of MADDOG stocks did not disappoint.

So now back to the question of WHY a MadDog Stock if my gun already shoots so well.  Well, Air force air guns are not perfect by any stretch and they are known to have flex at a few points along the action and frame.  My gun has some rigidity bits built into it but it still doesn't remove ALL of the flex. 3 of the key areas are the breech area and the area behind the breech were the bottle attaches (bottle collar) and around the center of the frame.  With the breech and collar area being the worse.  Having a SOLID platform like the MD stock to attach to the action relieves a lot of this "FLEX".  It's like pillar bedding a bolt action rifle if you will.  It makes the Airforce gun LESS hold sensitive and allows you to shoulder and squeeze the stock and NOT the airgun itself.  This feature alone is a God send and will help tremendously.  If you note closely, when i remove the shoulder plate from the rear of the bottle, my original LOP is slightly affected but that's a good thing anyways cause the dimension is well within my COMFORT range.  I've practiced HOLDING the gun with the stock and its feel and dimensions are right on point.  I could not be happier.

I can not wait to get the stock mounted and test this puppy out at the range.  Everything is looking very good so far..............................

PS........The stock will NOT be this color and finish....lol.  It will be black................

PSS......Now that Doug has my bottles dimensions and his stock FITS that bottle, if you purchase a bottle like mine (more shot) then he will already have the master setup and your stock will be ready (fitment trouble free) to make and ship just like the standard stock that fits the OEM AirForce bottle.

STAY TUNED!
